The AASM Foundation strives to develop the careers of sleep and circadian investigators by offering award opportunities for sleep researchers at various stages of their careers. The AASM Foundation is now accepting competitive applications for the 2020 Career Development Awards – Cycle 1, which includes the following award programs:

Physician Scientist Training Award

Are you a physician who is nearing completion of, or recently completed, a sleep medicine fellowship and are looking to start a research career? This award provides support and protected time for a mentored sleep research project and research training. Provides funding of up to $100,000 for one year.

Bridge to Success Award for Early Career Investigators

Have an unfunded NIH K or VA career development grant? This award provides the bridge support needed to respond to reviewer critiques, and revise and resubmit a promising application. Provides funding of up to $100,000 for one year.

ABSM Junior Faculty Award

Are you a board-certified sleep medicine physician who has a faculty appointment and are looking to start or continue a research career in academic medicine? This award provides support and protected time for a mentored sleep research project. Provides funding of up to $100,000 for two years.

Bridge to Success for Mid-Career/Senior Investigators

Have an unfunded large research grant application from the NIH (e.g. R01) or VA? This award provides the bridge support needed to respond to reviewer critiques, and revise and resubmit a promising application. Provides funding of up to $100,000 for one year.

Focused Projects Award for Junior Investigators

Are you a junior sleep scientist with an investigator-initiated project? This award supports both small self-contained research projects and pilot projects, in preparation for a larger study, which address one or more important unanswered scientific questions about sleep. Provides funding of up to $20,000 for one year.

Focused Projects Award for Junior Investigators: NSRR

Are you a junior sleep scientist interested in utilizing the National Sleep Research Resource (NIH/NHLBI Grant Number HL114473) for an upcoming research project? This award supports research projects that aim to address one or more important unanswered scientific questions related to sleep and/or sleep disorders. Provides funding of up to $20,000 for one year.

If you answered yes to any of these questions, consider applying for the 2020 Career Development Awards – Cycle 1. Applications are due June 8, 2020 and award selection notifications will be sent by October 31, 2020.
