What We Do
BUILD PATHWAYS FOR OPTIMIZING SLEEP HEALTH
Highly qualified investigators, community leaders, and clinicians need additional resources and funding to evolve patient care and increase sleep health awareness. The critical shortage of clinicians and researchers entering the field of sleep medicine creates additional challenges to developing solutions for the problems caused by sleep and circadian disorders. The AASM Foundation is the leading organization addressing these challenges with programs that directly support career development, high-impact research, clinical training and community award programs.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine Foundation award programs fund strategic research projects by leading sleep scientists. These studies explore the nature of sleep and sleep-related problems. The discoveries that result lay the groundwork for improvements in medical care for people who have a sleep disorder. Because of sleep research, safe and effective treatments are available today for many sleep disorders, including insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea and restless legs syndrome.
