The AASM Foundation’s vision is to improve the overall health of all people by supporting researchers and clinicians who are focused on improving the sleep health of patients and the public. While 2021 was a year of challenges and opportunities, the future of sleep medicine is bright, and we can make our vision a reality by working together to support the sleep community.
Our strategic goals for improving clinical sleep research and sleep health
Goal 1
Improve Patient-Centered Sleep Care Through High-Impact Research
Awarded $1.9 million in new clinical research funding
Launched a new grant collaboration with the CHEST Foundation
Partnered with the Hypersomnia Foundation on a focused RFA for the Treatment of Central Disorders of Hypersomnolence
Goal 2
Develop the Careers of Sleep and Circadian Investigators
Announced the first three recipients of the new Diversity Supplement Grant
Awarded more than $500,000 in career development grants to 7 early and mid-career sleep researchers
Created a Sleep and Circadian Science Researchers forum for early career investigators within the AASM Engage platform
Goal 3
Increase Engagement of Current and Potential Stakeholders
Hosted a special virtual event honoring the 2020 and 2021 Sleep Champion Award recipients in addition to highlighting the impact of our Community Sleep Health Grants
Launched the Distinguished Speaker Sessions and the Honor Graduates and Faculty Campaign to engage new donors and volunteers

Partnered with the AMA Foundation to provide a new Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship for medical school students interested in sleep medicine

Honor Graduates & Faculty Campaign launched to celebrate fellows completing their programs and the faculty who trained them

Announced a new grant with the CHEST Foundation that addresses topics that advance sleep medicine and ultimately improve patient outcomes

Launched a free online toolkit to help parents, caregivers and children celebrate World Sleep Day

Second Annual Friendsgiving highlighted why the future is bright for sleep medicine

Announced Start School Later/Healthy Hours as Sleep Champion Award recipient

Year-end campaign successfully raised a record of $100,000 from individual donors
