The AASM Foundation recognizes that our vision of healthier lives through better sleep is impossible without the tremendous work of the sleep research community. Increasing the pipeline of physicians to sleep physicians is important to us. That’s why we go a step further than solely funding sleep research with our Career Development Grants. Our Career Development Grants strive to provide a helping hand to those interested in cultivating their career in the sleep field.
This year, the AASM Foundation plans on dedicating $1,340,000 to Career Development Grants. Our Career Development Grants consist of five different individual grants. They are:
American Board of Sleep Medicine Junior Faculty Grant
This grant supports early career physician scientists with faculty appointments who are committed to academic careers and focusing their research in basic, translational, clinical or population sleep and circadian science by providing funding for mentored research projects.
Bridge to Success Grant for Early Career Investigators
This grant assists investigators at a critical juncture in their career where bridge funding can determine whether a promising sleep and circadian scientist stays in the sleep field or moves to a different career track.
Bridge to Success Grant for Mid-Career/Senior Investigators
This grant helps independent investigators stay in the field of sleep and circadian research by providing bridge funding while re-applying for research support.
Physician Scientist Training Grant
This grant supports early career sleep medicine physicians who are committed to pursuing a research career in basic, translational, clinical or population sleep and circadian science by providing a protected research training experience for a mentored research project upon completion of their clinical training.
Focused Projects Grant for Junior Investigators
This grant provides seed funding for mentored research projects in an effort to jumpstart an early career investigator’s research career.
Applications for all 2023 Career Development Grants (Cycle 1) open on November 28, 2022 and are due by January 9, 2023.
