The COVID-19 Relief Funding for AASM Foundation Grant Recipients was established in May 2020 to support grant recipients with currently active AASM Foundation projects to offset some of the additional expenses that may have been, or would be, incurred due to the unanticipated effects of the pandemic. As of October 24, 2022, this grant program will officially be sunset by the Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors originally designated $250,000 in restricted funds towards the COVID-19 Relief Funding for AASM Foundation Grant Recipients program. To date, more than $146,000 was issued to 19 AASM Foundation grants.

“The COVID-19 pandemic had an immediate effect among our grant recipients, which caused them to halt progress on their projects” said AASM Foundation president, Anita Shelgikar, MD, MHPE, “The supplemental COVID-19 relief funding for grant recipients provided much needed funds to retain project staff while research activities were at a standstill, adjust to increased equipment costs once limited research activities were resumed, and financially support other transitions in research activities.”

With most AASM Foundation grant recipients now able to return to normal research activities, the AASM Foundation Board decided to sunset the program.
