To further its mission of promoting discoveries that advance the understanding of sleep for healthier lives, the AASM Foundation offers the Strategic Research Award. This award focuses on addressing gaps in knowledge that impact the ability to provide optimal, patient-centered, cost-effective diagnosis and care for patients with sleep disorders.

The 2021 Strategic Research Award consists of two focused requests for applications on specific research domains that aim at advancing the field of sleep medicine.

2021 Strategic Research Award: AASM Strategic Plan Goals

The 2021 Strategic Research Award: AASM Strategic Plan Goals is open to topic areas related to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) Strategic Plan. The research domains and related topic areas for this request for applications include:

2021 Strategic Research Award: Behavioral and Psychological Treatments for Chronic Insomnia Disorder

The 2021 Strategic Research Award: Behavioral and Psychological Treatments for Chronic Insomnia Disorder is open to projects which address research gaps in the behavioral and psychological treatment of chronic insomnia that were identified by the AASM Behavioral & Psychological Treatments for Insomnia Clinical Practice Guideline Task Force. The research domains and related topic areas for this request for applications include:

  1. Comparisons Between Behavioral and Psychological Treatments for Chronic Insomnia
  2. Benefits and Harms of Behavioral and Psychological Treatments for Chronic Insomnia
  3. Patient-Centered Approaches to Behavioral and Psychological Treatments for Chronic Insomnia
  4. Single Component Behavioral and Psychological Treatments for Chronic Insomnia
  5. Behavioral and Psychological Treatments for Chronic Insomnia for Special Populations and Subgroups Across the Lifespan

The Strategic Research Award offers two levels of funding:

  • Category I: Up to $250,000 for a project period of up to three years.
  • Category II: Up to $100,000 for a project period of up to two years.
