The AASM Foundation is proud to announce that Sweet Dreamzzz, Inc. is the 2020 recipient of our inaugural Sleep Champion Award. This award is part of our efforts to recognize community-based organizations that excel at providing best-in-class care and/or education to the populations they serve. Sweet Dreamzzz will receive $5,000 and a travel award for a representative to attend the SLEEP 2021 meeting in Seattle.
The AASM Foundation Executive Committee reviewed many great applications for this award, and they appreciate the AASM members who nominated and supported the efforts of these excellent organizations.
For two decades, Sweet Dreamzzz has shared the AASM Foundation’s vision of healthier lives through better sleep, and the organization has been a pioneer in developing impactful, replicable, and sustainable sleep health education programming for low-income children and families.
“Sweet Dreamzzz truly embodies the spirit of the Sleep Champion Award and is well-positioned to help lead the country forward as we continue to break barriers to healthy sleep,” says Ronald D. Chervin, MD, MS, the Michael S. Aldrich Collegiate Professor of Sleep Medicine, and Director of the Sleep Disorders Center at the University of Michigan. Dr. Chervin nominated Sweet Dreamzzz for the award.
Sweet Dreamzzz started off as a small, grassroots effort to provide local, disadvantaged children with the bedtime basics they lacked. Since its founding, the organization has successfully expanded to empower thousands of children in Michigan and other states with the sleep awareness, practical nighttime materials, and adult support they need to sleep well.
