The AASM Foundation is joining the World Sleep Society in celebrating World Sleep Day by offering an interactive activity toolkit inspired by the theme, “Sleep Well, Live Better.”

The AASM Foundation’s World Sleep Day toolkit includes family-friendly activities such as educational resources and a printable coloring page to help caregivers start age-appropriate conversations with children about why sleep matters and how healthy sleep habits support a healthy future.

Healthy sleep is essential to a child’s growth, development, and readiness to learn. When children get the sleep they need, they are more likely to be healthier, happier, and better able to focus and regulate their emotions at school and at home. Establishing healthy sleep habits early can lay the foundation for lifelong sleep health.

Sleep health is more than just getting enough sleep. It includes six key dimensions that work together to support overall well-being:

  • Duration – getting enough total sleep over 24 hours
  • Efficiency – falling asleep easily and staying asleep
  • Timing – going to sleep at an appropriate time
  • Regularity – having consistent bedtimes and wake times
  • Alertness – staying focused and attentive during the day
  • Quality – feeling rested and satisfied with sleep

Parents and caregivers play an important role in supporting these dimensions through consistent routines and positive conversations about bedtime.
