The AASM Foundation is thrilled to announce that the World Sleep Academy is the recipient of the 2024 Sleep Champion Award.
The World Sleep Academy was selected because the initiative provides training in sleep medicine to healthcare workers, particularly in communities underserved by sleep medicine specialists across the planet.
World Sleep Academy volunteers are currently:
- Facilitating sleep webinars in Latin America
- Administering patient sleep questionnaires in Mongolia
- Hosting World Sleep Day events in Cyprus
- Providing pediatric sleep assistance for families in Turkey
- Engaging in discussions on obstructive sleep apnea in Serbia
- Educating residents of Barbados through television interviews
- Teaching High school students about quality sleep in Senegal
AASM member, Romy Hoque, MD, nominated the World Sleep Academy because he is a volunteer who appreciates how the initiative is unique in providing low-cost, high-quality sleep education for practitioners in underserved areas around the world.
The Sleep Champion Award is the AASM Foundation’s only merit-based award. Nominations are reviewed by volunteers and the recipient is selected by our Board of Directors Executive Committee.
The World Sleep Academy is an initiative of the World Sleep Society which is a non-profit organization. To get connected with the World Sleep Academy, please visit https://worldsleepsociety.org/world-sleep-academy/.
