Women’s History Month offers an important opportunity to recognize the women who lead, discover, and drive progress across sleep research and medicine. It is a time to elevate voices, honor leadership journeys, and reflect on the collective impact women continue to make in the field.

At TRENDS 2026, the AASM Foundation was proud to host a special leadership forum for women and allies. The gathering centered on authentic connection, shared experiences, and meaningful dialogue. Moderated by AASM Foundation President Lynn Marie Trotti, MD, MSc, and Nancy Collop, MD, the event brought together a community committed to mentorship, equity, and collaboration.

During the forum, attendees reflected on the critical role that mentors, support systems, and professional networks have played in shaping their careers. These conversations underscored the importance of connection and creating spaces where women feel supported, heard, and empowered to lead.

This forum builds on insights from the AASM Foundation’s 2025 Women in Leadership Focus Group, where participants emphasized the need for safe, inclusive environments to foster growth and connection. This focus group led to the leadership forum held at TRENDS 2026, as well as a collaboration with the Sleep Research Society to support Dependent Care & Accessibility travel grants to SLEEP 2026. Together, these efforts reflect the AASM Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting women at every stage of their careers and to strengthening the future of sleep medicine through community and collaboration.
