The AASM Foundation and the Hypersomnia Foundation are pleased to announce a partnership to jointly fund a 2026 Strategic Research Grant (Category I) of up to $250,000. This grant will support investigator-initiated projects that advance the diagnosis, clinical management, and/or treatment of idiopathic hypersomnia (IH) and related central disorders of hypersomnolence.

The AASM Foundation is excited to once again partner with the Hypersomnia Foundation because of the foundation’s dedication to:

  • Providing high-quality and timely information that is easy to understand and act on for people across the spectrum of the hypersomnia community.
  • Supporting all kinds of healthcare professionals in their ability to identify, diagnose, and treat IH and related sleep disorders.
  • Helping speed up scientific discoveries about idiopathic hypersomnia including causes and better diagnosis and treatments.

About the AASM Foundation Strategic Research Grant

The Strategic Research Grant program supports high-impact, investigator-initiated research that addresses critical gaps in knowledge and improves the ability to provide optimal, patient-centered, cost-effective care for people with sleep disorders.

To qualify for this co-funded opportunity, the letter of intent for the 2026 Strategic Research Grant (Category I) must address the diagnosis, clinical management, and/or treatment of IH and related central disorders of hypersomnolence in relation to either of the following focus areas:

  1. Research that addresses gaps identified in AASM clinical practice guidelines or focuses on the dissemination and implementation of the AASM’s guideline-based recommendations across diverse patient populations.
  2. Research that advances the goals of the AASM Strategic Plan, including Sleep Medicine Awareness, Practice Success, and Technology Implementation.
