The AASM Foundation is investing in people, research, and communities to improve the sleep health of all people. Our purpose is embodied by organizations that are at the forefront of providing important sleep services, spearheading sleep initiatives, engaging the sleep community, and/or leading sleep advocacy efforts to create change while promoting healthy sleep.

The Sleep Champion Award was created in 2019 to honor non-profit organizations that are leading such endeavors locally, nationally, or worldwide. The Sleep Champion Award celebrates successful community-based sleep health services and education provided by non-profit organizations.

This AASM Foundation award is supported by AASM Foundation general funds.

About the Sleep Champion Award

The Sleep Champion Award is funded by the AASM Foundation and provides:

  • $10,000 award (unrestricted funds)
    • Recipient is encouraged to use the funds to attend SLEEP 2024 and other meetings/events for educational and networking purposes.
  • Complimentary registration for a representative to attend the SLEEP 2024 meeting

The following individuals are eligible to nominate an organization for the Sleep Champion Award:

  • AASM individual or facility members are eligible to nominate an organization.

Only the following types of organizations are eligible to be nominated for the Sleep Champion Award:

  • Non-profit organizations.

Note: Only one nomination will be accepted per application. However, multiple letters of support may be submitted under the same nomination.

The following individuals are NOT eligible nominate an organization for the Sleep Champion Award:

  • Current AASM Foundation Board of Directors members are not eligible to nominate organizations.

Only the following types of organizations are NOT eligible to be nominated for the Sleep Champion Award:

  • Previous recipients of the Sleep Champion Award are not eligible.

The AASM Foundation Development Council will evaluate and score all submitted nominations. Factors that will be taken into consideration include:

  1. Alignment of the organization’s programs and/or initiatives with the AASM Foundation’s purpose.
  2. Examples about how the organization’s programs and/or initiatives leveraging best in class care and/or education to improve sleep health.
  3. Nomination letter(s) build(s) a compelling case for support.
