Cardiorespiratory Interactions during Noninvasive Ventilation

2018 American Board of Sleep Medicine Junior Faculty Grant

Salma Patel, MD, MPH
University of Arizona

Key Project Outcomes

The AASM foundation grant was instrumental at initiating a precision medicine approach for the treatment of patients with sleep apnea with positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy. The results of the study will in the future enable the utilization of commonly acquired signals such as electrocardiography during polysomnography to determine the safest PAP settings based on patient characteristics such as the presence and type of heart failure.
