Dr. Gurubhagavatula is an associate professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, where she serves as program director for the sleep medicine fellowship. She is trained in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine and focuses on the outpatient management of sleep disorders at Penn and at Philadelphia’s Crescenz VA Medical Center. Her research includes serving as principal investigator of studies on screening for sleep apnea among commercial drivers, and on long-term care management of sleep apnea in law enforcement officers.

Dr. Gurubhagavatula joined the AASM Foundation Board of Directors in June 2024 and has served on the AASM Board of Directors since June 2023.  Dr. Gurubhagavatula served as the chair of the AASM Sleep Medicine Essentials course and was the 2021 recipient of The Sleep Health Advocate Award (formerly known as the Mark O. Hatfield Public Policy or Advocacy Award).
