Emerson M. Wickwire, PhD

Dr. Wickwire is Professor of Psychiatry and Medicine and Section Head, Sleep Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. In this capacity, he oversees all sleep-related clinical, educational, and research activities. In addition, Dr. Wickwire’s broad portfolio of sleep research is substantially funded by federal, foundation, and private industry partners. His research focuses on health and economic outcomes of sleep disorders and their treatments, often using big data research methods, as well as telehealth and remote monitoring.

Dr. Wickwire joined the AASM Foundation Board of Directors in 2023. In addition, he has served on the AASM Board of Directors since 2022. He previously served the AASM in numerous leadership roles, including Chair, Sleep Psychologist Assembly; Co-Chair, Insomnia Summit Task Force; Vice Chair, Health Policy Strategy Presidential Committee; member of numerous committees including the Alternate Payment Models Task Force, Telemedicine Implementation Task Force, Practice Development Advisory Council, and Education Committee. Dr. Wickwire is also an Associate Editor at the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, the official journal of the AASM, and a past recipient of the Stuart Quan Award for Editorial Excellence.
