SUMMARY:SLEEP 2024 Insomnia Implementation Science Session
DESCRIPTION:Join the AASM Foundation at SLEEP 2024 for a special session on behavioral insomnia interventions titled: \nS-21 Tailoring Behavioral Insomnia Interventions for Diverse Populations: AASM Foundation-Funded Implementation Efforts on Wednesday\, June 5\, 2024; 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m CT. \nOverview \nThe 2021 “Behavioral and Psychological Treatments for Chronic Insomnia Disorder in Adults: an American Academy of Sleep Medicine Clinical Practice Guideline” strongly recommends cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) as the first-line treatment for chronic insomnia. However\, numerous barriers impede CBT-I’s reach and uptake in routine care. A significant obstacle limiting the application and effectiveness of real-world practice is the lack of adaptation and testing of CBT-I for diverse populations with complex needs\, such as adolescents\, adults with substance use disorders\, night shift workers\, and economically marginalized adults. It is essential to adapt CBT-I to address the unique challenges faced by these underrepresented groups and overcome barriers to successful implementation in practice. \nThis session provides examples of recent efforts from AASM Foundation-funded projects to utilize implementation science frameworks and theories in adapting and implementing CBT-I among novel populations. These adaptations can potentially enhance the acceptability and appropriateness of CBT-I and optimize treatment “fit” across care contexts. \nFeaturing \n\nAdapting Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia for Night Shift Nurses and Beyond presented by Jessica R. Dietch\, PhD\, DBSM\nAdapting and Testing Brief Behavioral Treatment for Insomnia for Socio- and Economically Marginalized Adults presented by Suzanne Bertisch\, MD\, MPH\nAdapting Brief Behavioral Treatment for Insomnia in a Residential Substance Use Disorder Recovery Program presented by Traci Speed\, MD\nAdapting CBT-I For and With Adolescents: Preliminary Findings from the DREAM IT Study by Sarah M. Honaker\, PhD\, DBSM
